When you try to use a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services-compatible editor,
such as SharePoint Designer, to create an .aspx Web page in a Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server 2007 Web application, you receive the following error
message:
Error: Access denied.
Additionally, the error message asks you to use a different user name and
password to log on to the Web application. This behavior occurs even though you
have Contributor permissions for the Web application.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because you have limited permissions for Master Page and Page
Layout Gallery. RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, give yourself Design permissions for Master Page and
Page Layout Gallery. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Use administrative credentials to log on to the Web
application that is hosted on the server that is running SharePoint Server
2007.
2. Click Site Actions, point to Site Settings, and then click
Modify All Site Settings.
3. Under Galleries, click Master Page and Page Layout Gallery.
4. Click Settings, and then click Document Library Settings.
5. Under Permissions and Management, click Permissions for
this document library.
6. Click New, and then type your user name in the Users/Groups
box.
7. Click Give users permission directly, click to select the
Design check box, and then click OK.
